Online Lecture Presented by Professor Vladimir Terzija, Fellow of IEEE and Humboldt

On the afternoon of January 8th, 2022, Prof. Vladimir Terzija, IEEE Fellow and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, was invited to deliver a speech titled “Smart Technologies and Smart Solutions for Monitoring, Protection and Control of Future Power/Energy Systems”. The series of online academic lectures were jointly organized by the School of Electrical Engineering of Chongqing University, the State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security, Liyang Smart City Research Institute of Chongqing University and were hosted by Associate Professor Ren Zhouyang.

On behalf of the School, Prof. Ren Zhouyang extended a warm welcome to Prof. Vladimir Terzija and gave a brief overview of Prof. Terzija’s research direction and the lecture outline.

Starting from the introduction of the historical process of the Industrial Revolution, Prof. Terzija linked his own learning and work experience and shared the impact and enlightenment of the four industrial revolutions on scientific and technological innovation breakthroughs.

In the lecture, Prof. Terzija introduced the future energy system, intelligent technology, intelligent solutions, intelligent frequency control in low inertia power systems, and other contents in detail, and also analyzed the difficulties and challenges to be overcome in the process of realizing intellectualization. Prof. Terzija emphasized that society is developing in the direction of requiring complex technologies and complex solutions; The prerequisite for effective monitoring, protection and control is to understand the phenomena of modern power and energy systems; Smart grid technologies and solutions will help to achieve the Zero-carbon Target in 2050; We need to provide comprehensive monitoring, protection and control solutions for today's more secure, reliable, flexible and flexible systems.

During the final Q&A session, students and teachers asked questions about the defects of modern intelligent technology and the application prospect of digital twin technology. Prof. Terzija enthusiastically gave detailed answers to these questions. At last, Prof. Terzija encouraged students to be diligent in thinking, dare to try, dare to innovate, and constantly pursue new breakthroughs in learning and scientific research.
