On the morning of May 9th, 2021, General Manager of North American Clean Energy Research Institute,Professor Cheng Jihong was invited to deliver a speech at the “Online Lecture Hall” on the topic of “ Clean Energy Technology Development toward carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets”. The series of online academic lectures were jointly organized by the School of Electrical Engineering of Chongqing University, the State Key Laboratory of Power Transmission Equipment and System Security, and were hosted by professor Ren Zhouyang, Dean Assistant of the School.
Before the lecture officially started, Professor Ren extended a warm welcome to Professor Cheng's participation in the "Online Lecture Hall" and introduced Cheng’s lecture to the audience.
During the lecture, Professor Cheng briefly introduced the international status of carbon emission and the long-term strategies aimed at carbon neutrality/net zero GHG emissions of China. He introduced the three paths to achieve carbon neutrality, i.e. carbon emission reduction, carbon substitution, and carbon recycling, from "new energy technology - hydrogen energy", "technically reliable hydrogen refueling network and large-scale application", "new energy technology - energy storage, photovoltaic, fuel ", "new energy technology - energy storage, photovoltaic, fuel cell power generation", "energy-saving and emission reduction technology - coal power, coal chemical, coal-based materials, environmental protection" and "CCUS technology ".
At the end, Prof. Cheng gave a good outlook for the goal of "double carbon" and left his contact information to invite students and teachers to further discuss after the meeting. At the same time, Prof. Cheng answered questions such as "the bottleneck of hydrogen energy technology in China" and "pros and cons of using hydrogen energy in power system", and gave detailed explanations to the students.
